March 29, 2016 – The Association of Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New York and the New York Law Journal have partnered with the New York City Dept. of Education to sponsor the Sixteenth annual essay contest for 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school students. Ten students will win the opportunity to intern for one week with a Justice of the Supreme Court and earn a $100.00 gift
card. A maximum of ten entries from each school will be considered. One of the winning essays will be published in the New York Law Journal, a legal periodical published by the ALM. Ceremony on Tuesday May 17, at the NYC Bar.

March 14, 2016 – This month’s JRC Featured Law Academy is Forest Hills High School, located in Forest Hills, Queens. The students in the Law Academy participate in Moot Court, Mock Trial and are perennial winners in the We The People NYC competition.

March 3, 2016 – The Justice Resource Center coordinated a two-day trip to Albany for teacher professional development based upon the content of “We The People: Bill of Rights and the Constitution” model program. Fifteen NYC teachers of law classes, English language learning, government, AP government, special education, participation in government, and American history toured the Capitol with a guide from the NY Historical Society, heard from Drohan Lee LLP partner and Columbia University professor, Christopher Riano, about Constitutional Law, and observed the We The People NY State rounds.

March 2, 2016 – The Federal Bar Council’s Public Service Committee in conjunction with the Justice Resource Center (JRC) are sponsoring the Federal Courts Visit Program for high school students. Up to 30 students, guided by a Law Academy teacher and an attorney from your MENTOR law firm, will visit the federal courthouse, watch a court proceeding and meet with a federal judge. The available spring dates are from March 14 – June 2, 2016.

March 2, 2016 – The Sonia and Celina Sotomayor Judicial Internship Program is now accepting applications for its summer 2016 internship program. High school students from underserved communities will be exposed to careers in the law through an internship with a Judge in state or federal courts throughout New York City, as well as weekly seminars, including sessions on college preparation, essay writing, professional skills, legal research and writing, and exploring different legal career options.
