{"id":155,"date":"2014-04-18T15:37:17","date_gmt":"2014-04-18T19:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=155"},"modified":"2019-03-28T13:53:56","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T13:53:56","slug":"work-based-learning-internships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jrcnyc.org\/site\/work-based-learning-internships\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Internship Management Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">STUDENT INTERNSHIP MANAGEMENT SERVICES\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Student Internship Management Services (SIMS) is a progressive, multi-year sequence of instructional activities, within a real-world, work-related context, that allows students to build a bridge from adolescence to adulthood.\u00a0 The SIMS program is a central function of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) mission whereby students are able to apply their classroom knowledge and skills to a structured professional environment- narrowing the gap between learning, future employment, and their post-secondary education. For more information please contact Shakira O&#8217;Kane at\u00a0SOkane2@schools.nyc.gov.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The efficacy and functionality of the program are measured by the achievement of the following goals:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">the ability to support students as they identify and cultivate their strengths and areas for growth;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">the establishment of relationships with senior professionals, mentors, sponsors, and peers that provide a bridge into working communities or other institutional settings;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">the students\u2019 ability to develop and\/or refine their intended professional trajectory;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">the students\u2019 ability to develop and present their accomplishments to their professional advantage (i.e. resumes, personal statements, portfolios, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>The Justice Resource Center (JRC) Internship Program and SIMS<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The JRC coordinates law-related internships with the SIMS Office for CTE-participating public school students in the Fall, Spring and Summer.
