Over 120 students competed at MLK High School, hosted by the Justice Resource Center. Classes of students from\u00a0Forest Hills High School, James Madison High School,\u00a0Harry S. Truman High School, Midwood High School, and Queens Vocational and Technical High School presented arguments about the Constitution&#8217;s relevance and answered judges&#8217; questions during rounds of mock Congressional\u00a0hearings.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2685\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2685\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/jrcnycorg.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/jamesmadison_finalist_600px.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-2685 \" src=\"http:\/\/jrcnycorg.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/jamesmadison_finalist_600px.jpg\" alt=\"JamesMadison_finalist_600px\" width=\"480\" height=\"112\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">James Madison HS finished as one of the NYC Finalists! The team will be competing in Albany at the NY State competition in February 2016.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution Program began in 1987 through the Center for Civic Education, and\u00a0promotes civic competence and responsibility among the nation\u2019s upper elementary and secondary students. The Justice Resource Center (JRC), in partnership with the Law, Youth, and Citizenship Committee of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA),\u00a0offer NYC high schools the opportunity to participate in program.<\/p>\n<p>The We the People\u00a0competition is the yearly culminating event of the NYC program. Teams of students present for four minutes based on the six units in the text. Volunteer attorneys, politicians, and professors serve on the judges panel, and ask students questions for the final six minutes of the competition.
