{"id":2604,"date":"2015-10-20T14:26:57","date_gmt":"2015-10-20T18:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/?p=2604"},"modified":"2015-10-20T14:26:57","modified_gmt":"2015-10-20T18:26:57","slug":"2015-mentor-moot-court-kick-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jrcnyc.org\/site\/2015\/10\/20\/2015-mentor-moot-court-kick-off\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 MENTOR Moot Court Kick-Off!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>October 20, 2015 &#8211; <\/em>The Justice Resource Center organized the 31st Annual MENTOR Kick-Off on October 7, 2015, hosted by Fordham Law School.\u00a0The luncheon is an opportunity for MENTOR teachers and attorneys across the citywide \u201cLaw Cluster\u201d to meet, discuss updates for the coming year, and receive the official materials for the 2015 Moot Court competition. 50 MENTOR law firms and legal organizations partnered with NYC public high schools were invited to attend the event. The day featured guest speakers from the NYC Department of Education, Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Fordham School of Law,\u00a0JRC Board of Directors, and documentary producer Dog Green Productions.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Since the 1980\u2019s,\u00a0the Justice Resource Center has partnered with\u00a0Fordham Law School\u00a0to offer the MENTOR Moot Court competition to NYC high schools.\u00a0 Approximately 50 high school teams of eight students each compete in single-elimination rounds in November through December.\u00a0 The MENTOR Moot Court competition is part of the MENTOR Law Program, a national program created by lawyers, which\u00a0partners\u00a0law firms with public high schools.\u00a0 MENTOR attorneys and law teachers coach students in legal research and oral advocacy skills based on the published\u00a0MENTOR Moot Court case materials.
