Fifteen NYC teachers of law classes, English language learning, government, AP government, special education, participation in government, and American history toured the Capitol with a guide from the NY Historical Society, heard from Drohan Lee LLP partner and Columbia University professor, Christopher Riano, about Constitutional Law, and observed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.civiced.org\/programs\/wtp\" target=\"_blank\">We The People NY State rounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2856\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2856\" style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SEEDJamesMadisonLEgacy_TeachersPDAlbany_Feb2016.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2856\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2856 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SEEDJamesMadisonLEgacy_TeachersPDAlbany_Feb2016.jpg\" alt=\"SEEDJamesMadisonLEgacy_TeachersPDAlbany_Feb2016\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2856\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NYC James Madison Legacy Project teachers on the steps of the NY Capitol building in Albany.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The trip was part of the Justice Resource Center, in conjunction with the Social Studies Department, receiving\u00a0a grant for teacher professional development based upon the content of <a title=\"2015 We The People NYC Competition at MLK High School\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/?p=2245\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cWe The People: Bill of Rights and the Constitution\u201d<\/a> model program. \u00a0Teachers receive a free class set of books, as well as participate in 30 hours of PD sessions facilitated by scholars and experienced \u201cWe The People\u201d Mentors. Teachers will have the opportunity to implement a mock congressional hearing in their classes.
