{"id":3173,"date":"2016-09-28T15:49:48","date_gmt":"2016-09-28T19:49:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/?p=3173"},"modified":"2016-12-09T19:55:40","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T19:55:40","slug":"2016-mentor-law-firmschool-partnership-kick-off-luncheon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jrcnyc.org\/site\/2016\/09\/28\/2016-mentor-law-firmschool-partnership-kick-off-luncheon\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 MENTOR Law Firm\/School Partnership Kick-Off Luncheon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>September 28, 2016 &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>The Justice Resource Center organized the 32nd Annual MENTOR Kick-Off on Tuesday September 28,\u00a0hosted by Fordham Law School.\u00a0The luncheon is an opportunity for MENTOR teachers and attorneys across the citywide \u201cLaw Cluster\u201d to meet, discuss updates for the coming year, and receive the official materials for the 2016 Moot Court competition.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3174\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3174\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/jrcnycorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/09\/rsz_2016_mentor_luncheon_1831.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3174\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3174 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/jrcnycorg.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/09\/rsz_2016_mentor_luncheon_1831.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"rsz_2016_mentor_luncheon_1831\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3174\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Judge Victor Marrero<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Special guest speakers at the event included The Honorable\u00a0Victor Marrero from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of NY, and Chair of the JRC Board of Directors James O&#8217;Connor.<\/p>\n<p>Since the 1980\u2019s,\u00a0the Justice Resource Center has partnered with\u00a0Fordham Law School\u00a0to offer the MENTOR Moot Court competition to NYC high schools. Approximately 50 high school teams of eight students each compete in single-elimination rounds in November through December.<\/p>\n<p>The MENTOR Moot Court competition is part of the MENTOR Law Program, a national program created by lawyers, which\u00a0partners\u00a0law firms with public high schools.\u00a0 MENTOR attorneys and law teachers coach students in legal research and oral advocacy skills based on the published\u00a0MENTOR Moot Court case materials.
