{"id":670,"date":"2014-12-10T12:10:55","date_gmt":"2014-12-10T17:10:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/?p=670"},"modified":"2014-12-10T12:10:55","modified_gmt":"2014-12-10T17:10:55","slug":"nyc-high-school-mock-trial-registration-is-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jrcnyc.org\/site\/2014\/12\/10\/nyc-high-school-mock-trial-registration-is-open\/","title":{"rendered":"NYSBA and JRC Distribute High School Mock Trial Case to NYC Teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>December 10, 2014: <\/i>Over 80\u00a0NYC teachers met at the New York County Lawyer&#8217;s Association to receive the 2014-2015 Mock Trial case and learn about the issues. The Justice Resource Center (JRC), in partnership with the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), provides high school students the opportunity to participate in a citywide Mock Trial competition,\u00a0with the winning team moving on to the\u00a0NYS finals. Teams of 6-12\u00a0students \u00a0compete\u00a0at least twice in a multiple-elimination\u00a0round tournament. A team can be from a designated course, or an after school program. The preliminary rounds will begin during the last week of February. The top two NYC teams will advance to the State Finals in Albany in May 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"yui_3_7_2_1_1374688652147_6564\">\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\" align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jrcnyc.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/NYSBA-logo-300x34.png\" alt=\"NYSBA logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"34\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_7_2_1_1374688652147_6566\" style=\"text-align:left;\" align=\"center\">Schools\u00a0are\u00a0assigned a lawyer-coach,\u00a0who works with the assigned teacher-coach from the school.\u00a0Teachers\u00a0are\u00a0afforded the opportunity to participate in a professional development and informational session\u00a0provided by the JRC. The\u00a0case,\u00a0written by the NYSBA\u2019s Law, Youth and Citizenship committee\u00a0is\u00a0provided to each school.\u00a0All rounds take place after school at various borough courthouses\u00a0with lawyers presiding as judges.\u00a0\u00a0The final round is held at the United States Federal Court with a federal judge presiding.
