Featured Law Academy: New Utrecht High School

October 29, 2015 – On Tuesday, October 20, 2015, U.S. District Court Judge Honorable Pamela K. Chen, welcomed a small group of students from the Legal Studies Academy at New Utrecht High School. This visit was orchestrated by Bayardo Zelaya, a senior, who interned with Judge Chen this past summer as part of the Sonia & Celina Sotomayor High School Judicial Internship program.

New York City Students Invited to Free Virtual College Fair October 29th

October 26, 2015 – CollegeWeekLive and the New York City Department of Education invite high school students and their families to meet top colleges and universities from around the country online at the NYC Virtual College Fair. Held in conjunction with NY College Application Week (October 26-30), this unique event is a chance for high school students to live chat with admissions counselors and current students from 100+ colleges and universities, including CUNY and SUNY schools.

2015 MENTOR Moot Court Kick-Off!

October 20, 2015 – The Justice Resource Center organized the 31st Annual MENTOR Kick-Off on October 7, 2015, hosted by Fordham Law School. The luncheon is an opportunity for MENTOR teachers and attorneys across the citywide “Law Cluster” to meet, discuss updates for the coming year, and receive the official materials for the 2015 Moot Court competition. 50 MENTOR law firms and legal organizations partnered with NYC public high schools were invited to attend the event. The day featured guest speakers from the NYC Department of Education, Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Fordham School of Law, JRC Board of Directors, and documentary producer Dog Green Productions.

JRC Students’ Summer Learning!

September 1, 2015 – This summer, Justice Resource Center students were involved with numerous work-based learning opportunities, which included interning for federal and state judges in the Sonia & Celina Sotomayor Judicial internship program, participating in the New York State Bar Association’s mock trial summer camp, and interning at law offices through the City Bar’s Thurgood Marshall program. JRC’s capstone program places high school students at law-related organizations through the Work-Based Learning (WBL) summer internships.
