October 20, 2015 – The Justice Resource Center organized the 31st Annual MENTOR Kick-Off on October 7, 2015, hosted by Fordham Law School. The luncheon is an opportunity for MENTOR teachers and attorneys across the citywide “Law Cluster” to meet, discuss updates for the coming year, and receive the official materials for the 2015 Moot Court competition. 50 MENTOR law firms and legal organizations partnered with NYC public high schools were invited to attend the event. The day featured guest speakers from the NYC Department of Education, Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Fordham School of Law, JRC Board of Directors, and documentary producer Dog Green Productions.

JRC Students’ Summer Learning!
September 1, 2015 – This summer, Justice Resource Center students were involved with numerous work-based learning opportunities, which included interning for federal and state judges in the Sonia & Celina Sotomayor Judicial internship program, participating in the New York State Bar Association’s mock trial summer camp, and interning at law offices through the City Bar’s Thurgood Marshall program. JRC’s capstone program places high school students at law-related organizations through the Work-Based Learning (WBL) summer internships.
JRC and Pace Univ. Presenting at School Tech Summit
July 16, 2015 – On Wednesday, ask July 29, the Justice Resource Center will be co-presenting with Pace University at the NYCDOE School Technology Summit at LaGuardia HS. The presentation will highlight the JRC’s Computer Forensics-Cyber Security program for high school students, and give educators a chance to analyze a computer forensics case and participate in a group game.

Congratulations to JRC Law Teacher Luke Young of William Cullen Bryant HS!
June 30, 2015 – On June 15, 2015, Jonathan “Luke” Young, a 10th-12th grade social studies teacher at William Cullen Bryant High School, received his 2015 Big Apple Teaching award!
Chancellor Carmen Fariña announced the winners of the third annual Big Apple Awards: Recognizing Teacher Excellence in New York City, which celebrates the incredible and life-changing work of public school teachers in New York City. The Big Apple Awards is a citywide recognition program open to all full-time teachers in New York City public schools. 12 award recipients, along with an additional 72 finalists and semifinalists from a pool of over 4,500 nominees, were honored in a ceremony at Manhattan Supreme Court.
