The Justice Resource Center (JRC) has partnered with CIVITAS Venezuela for over a decade. NYC was paired with Venezuela through a U.S. Department of Education grant that enabled us to work closely with teachers, lawyers and students to offer civics and law-related education programs to the school-age population. Through delegation visits of lawyers and teachers between NYC and Venezuela, professional development sessions for teachers in Venezuela, and technical support with culminating events all over Venezuela, we emerged as a model program in Latin America. These programs are flourishing in Venezuela despite the political climate. The MENTOR program has been implemented in many schools in Caracas, bringing the rule of law concepts to students at various age levels.
We are very proud of our work in Venezuela, which was recognized by CIVICUS and given the Nelson Mandela – Graça Machel Innovation Award for Social Justice.
